Dale Pate (Class of 2019)
Dale Pate is currently a Crew Chief at All Phases Archaeology in Mobile, Alabama. Since graduating from the University of South Alabama in 2019, he has participated in over 100 archaeological projects. Guided by the structure provided by a degree in Anthropology from USA, he has worked on projects ranging from CRM Phase I surveys on the Gulf Coast to Phase III mitigations in South Dakota.
At the same time that he works in CRM, Dale was accepted into graduate school at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. His master’s thesis research involves the alkali treatment used by the Indigenous People of the Eastern woodlands to modify maize. His skills in the field also led him to teach a summer field school in Knoxville after joining their graduate program.
In his own words: “While working on paleoethnobotanical research for Dr. Erin Nelson as an undergraduate at USA, I fell in love with the research and developed a project that I would continue working on at the graduate level.”
