USA Department of Internal Medicine

The Department of Internal Medicine in the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine at the University of South Alabama is dedicated to medical education and the development of internal medicine physicians with solid clinical skills, and, if wanted, for additional subspecialty training. In our program, you will work side by side with attending faculty in both the inpatient and outpatient setting, and you will have the opportunity to know all of your mentors very well.

We are proud of the success of our graduates, the teaching skills of our faculty, and the camaraderie within our program. We will continue to amend the program, where necessary, to give our residents the skills necessary to practice in the future. This includes maintaining flexibility, so residents may tailor their training to their needs. We encourage you to look at our program and be a part of the exciting future of this institution.

Chair Welcome Message 

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of South Alabama.

Our department is united by a shared commitment to excellence in patient care, education, research and service.  As a department within a dynamic health system, we have the privilege of caring for patients across the Gulf Coast while preparing the next generation of physicians to meet the evolving needs of patients across the country.

At the heart of our mission are our patients and learners.  We strive to provide compassionate, evidence-based care; to create an educational environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and lifelong learning; and to advance medicine through meaningful clinical and translational research.  We are equally committed to supporting our faculty and staff, recognizing that a strong and collegial community is essential to achieving these goals.
