Using Military Tuition Assistance at USA

The University of South Alabama is a proud supporter of our military students. The university adheres to the policies and guidelines of the Department of Defense Memorandum of Understanding (DODMOU) and maintains a current agreement on file in the Office of Military Services.

If you plan to use Military Tuition Assistance at USA, you will need to complete all steps to apply and receive TA from your branch of service.

Each military service branch requires you to apply online through your education portal. **NOTE** All TA requests must be submitted and approved at least seven (7) business days prior to the start of each semester to allow time for processing. TA requests submitted less than seven business days before the start date will not be considered for TA funding for that term.

Once you have applied for TA through your branch of service and receive your TA Voucher/Approval Form, you must provide this to the Office of Student Accounting. Please email your approval to Jennifer Bergeron (jbergeron@southalabama.edu).

Course/Degree Completion

Once you have completed your course or degree program, Karen Goodwin will post your grades or degree program in your military portal at the end of each term. Please email Karen at kgoodwin@southalabama.edu if you have questions in these areas. **NOTE** Karen is only responsible for posting grades. If you have other concerns about grades, please reach out to the appropriate professor/instructor.

Going to use TA? Apply for the Heroes Scholarship!

The University of South Alabama now offers a scholarship to active-duty, guard, or reserve members who are seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree where eligible in all academic programs. Heroes is designed to cover tuition expenses not met by tuition assistance. Applicants must be active members in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, or Space Force and fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Using TA with VA Educational Benefits

Students who plan to use VA Educational Benefits in conjunction with TA, please contact the Office of Military Services to ensure all VA paperwork is submitted and accurate.
